The 11-Year-Old Rocking Horse

Our adorable little visitor last week
took some time to get familiar with the space
then started saying hello to all the toys
She pulled out the cash register and pressed away
arranged books around the space
played with the blocks and the music tree
loved building a little fort with boxes
and pushed the cart around, inevitably bumping into the natural rubber toy cars
Touching this, looking at that
trying this, doing that
exploring freely, playing to her heart's content
But she kept coming back
climbing up and down
rocking on this 11-year-old horse
then moving on to the next thing
The natural rocking motion of the horse
feels soothing and relaxing
Whether it's a rocking horse, a swing
being carried on parents' shoulders while they walk
or the gentle vibrations of a stroller on the road
Kids always love that gentle, rhythmic rocking
Maybe because
each of these brings back a sense of safety, relaxation, and ease 🙂
Like...
going back to being in mom's belly
That steady, gentle rhythm
and the warm sense of security
of being held close 💗
