Memory of Home

The other day, Alice was tidying up her toys
when she reached for the Guidecraft tracks
and started laying them out.
This happens all the time during cleanup —
you start putting things away and somewhere along the way, you're playing again 😂
Especially with open-ended toys.
Something about picking them up pulls you right into flow — your hands start arranging
and before you know it, you're lost in a quiet conversation with whatever's in front of you.
When she finished,
Alice snapped a photo and came running over, beaming:
"Can you tell what this is?"
One second.
That's all it took.
I'd been in that very scene with her —
and the memories came flooding back.
Fragments of a family road trip,
vivid and warm,
as though no time had passed at all.
"It's the view after coming out of the tunnel
on the way to Taitung —
that stretch of coastline near Duoliang Station, right? 🙂"
Alice nodded, thrilled that she'd brought the scene back to life 💕
What I think truly lit her up wasn't just the act of recreating a memory through the pieces in her hands.
It was that in the very same second,
she was held again by the feeling of being in that beautiful moment.
Even though she was so little then,
children carry the world through their senses —
and what they feel deeply, they keep. Vividly.
In their whole being 🙂
That warmth of being together.
The beauty shaped by love,
moment by moment, in the spaces between us.
Today is Lunar New Year's Eve — the day families come together.
Every family has its own shape, own atmosphere,
own rhythm and culture,
Also different preferences, different stories,
but drawn together
by the memories they share.
Family memories hold everything — the sweet and the bitter, the heavy and the light.
May love be the reason
we keep finding our way back to each other.
